when i paint, i forget about time, my immediate surroundings, and my aches and pains. i use photographs and the works of other artists as references. initially, my paintings are quite realistic. as they evolve, they become a great deal more interpretive and imaginative.

my paintings are bold; i use vivid colors. the vulnerability of people facing the majesty of nature is a major theme in most of my paintings.

my favorite artists include paul cezanne and gabriele münter.
